Since the release of Nokia Lumia 800 with Microsoft Windows Phone OS, its demand stayed significant in market. To get in the competition seriously Nokia had launched Lumia 900 in May 2012. This time Lumia 900 is bigger in size and better in performance as compare to Nokia Lumia 800. Its quiet similar to Nokia Lumia 800 but in weight its slight heavier.

Nokia Lumia 900 comes with Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) operating system which is quiet reliable and great. Its beauty is enhanced by the 4.3’ AMOLED touch screen with 480 x 800 resolutions. Display is supported by the powerful Adreno 205 GPU and the whole processing power runs on a single Core Scorpion CPU. Design

Nokia Lumia 900 is quiet fine looking handset though it’s not something new but it’s not that boring either. Slim and stylish Nokia Lumia 900 fits very nicely in hand but pretty heavier. We don’t mind its 160g weight cause this adds a solid feel and durability. Nokia Lumia 900 is built with a plastic unibody and especially its white ceramic color makes it more elegant. Other color schemes are: traditional black, white, magenta and cyan.

The most significant feature of Nokia Lumia 900 is the AMOLED screen which enhances the overall user experience. Screen is made of scratch resistant Gorilla glass which gives lasting look to it. Even on excessive usage and continues touch or swiping Nokia Lumia 900 keeps its shine. Screen is not only stays clear but it’s also resistive to small bumps or drop from a short height.

Left side of Nokia Lumia 900 has no buttons. On the right hand side it has a volume rocker, a sliding lock button and a dedicated camera key. Keys are very responsive and solid in use. Top side of Nokia Lumia 900 has a 3.5mm audio jack, a micro USB port and a noise cancelling secondary microphone. Top side also has the mico SIM tray. Bottom side of Nokia Lumia 900 has a wide grille of loud speaker and primary Mic also hidden there.

Front of Nokia Lumia has the no physical buttons the top side has a front facing camera beside Nokia logo and the ambient light & proximity sensor also placed between them. On the lower side of front screen there are 3 touch sensitive buttons (Back, Start and Search) for easy navigation of OS. On the back side it holds the 8MP camera with dual LED flash.

The overall design of Nokia Lumia 900 can be said a mixture of N9 and Lumia 800 Great in looks and solid in hands.

Performance

Nokia Lumia 900 offers fast and very responsive experience of Windows Phone OS. With its 1.4 GHz Scorpion CPU it stays great on multi tasking and application runs perfectly smooth. On different application test and continuous internet browsing we didn’t find Lumia 900 lacking anywhere. While using the 8MP camera for instant shots or for a video recording Nokia Lumia 900 keeps its speed constant. Qualcomm chipset and 512MB RAM makes the Lumia 900 faster and seems add a boost to its CPU.

Windows Phone 7.5 OS felt great as the computing power of Nokia Lumia 900 justify all its features. It keeps everything intact and perfect while exploring windows menus, touching or swiping through applications or just searching a contact in phone book. We hope Nokia will add multi core technology for better performance and market competition in future.

Display

The best feature of Nokia Lumia 900 is its amazing 4.3’ screen with 16M colors which holds the complete magic for users. Screen display resolution generated with its powerful Adreno 205 GPU. It offers great 2.56 contrast ratio and a bright color resolution. Pictures, videos and application menus are looks very clear and deep with their colors and white balance. Nokia Lumia Anti glare screen keeps the display crystal clear all the time even in bright sunlight we didn’t find any difficulty to read or watch the display.

Reading text of documents or browsing website felt great on Nokia Lumia 900. Display stay vibrant and there is no stress for eyes. There are more enhanced display offered by other handset but with single Core CPU and windows phone 7.5 OS Nokia Lumia 900 seems to be pretty strong on its screen visibility and display quality.

Camera

Nokia Lumia 900 offers 8 MP Carl Zeiss Camera with auto focus. Camera is pretty decent with its still image quality. Details stay sharp and resolution is perfect thanks to 28mm wide angle F2.2 lens by Carl Zeiss, it’s not less than any HD quality camera. Nokia Lumia 900 camera is perfect for both indoor and outdoor usage its dual LED flash is very helpful while taking images in night or in dark light. Nokia Lumia 900 F2.2 lens has ability to deliver 8MP images with aspect ratio of 4:3 and 7.1MP images if required aspect ratio 16:9.

Nokia Lumia 900 also offers great HD video recording at 720p with 30 frames per second. Means, no matter you are new to the video recording or using a HD handy cam for years, Nokia Lumia 900 is the perfect HD video camera in your pocket. Users can capture memorable family celebration or make videos of their favorite concert artist with few touches or swipes. The sound quality is great while making a video indoors or outdoors.

Social sharing is very easy with Nokia Lumia 900, pictures and videos can be uploaded via easy pre-installed application or just upload them to your Facebook account.

OS & Other Features

Nokia Lumia 900 has Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) OS. It’s not the latest Microsoft phone OS available but seem quiet fine with its performance and features. Plenty of pre-installed applications come with Nokia Lumia 900 and it also allows users to install other windows apps as per their requirement. Interface is quiet similar to Nokia Lumia 800 but OS 7.5 seem to be more vibrant with its menus and gives a better potential. Social application like Facebook, Tweeter and other social application are easy to add and remove from Nokia Lumia 900. For document editing and viewing Nokia Lumia 900 has the latest Microsoft office support. While you’re travelling Nokia Lumia 900 keeps your email and documents safe and ready. Nokia also gives option for its Rom update to Windows Phone OS 7.8 we wish it could be upgradable to the latest Windows Phone OS 8.

Nokia Lumia 900 offers good Wi-Fi capability browsing and visibility of websites stay perfect. We also like the GPS feature with A-GPS support and the most interesting feature is the free voice guided navigation means no recharge every year, it free for life time. Beside this Nokia Lumia also offers a digital compass which came very handy while you’re on hiking or went for sailing. Nokia Lumia 900 has data connectivity through micro USB port only. There is no HDMI port for enhance multimedia experience. It also has standard Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and has EDR. Storage offer with Nokia Lumia 900 is internal 16GB, there no SD Card slot for expansion.

Battery life of Nokia Lumia 900 is less than 2days with its Standard Li-Ion 1830 mAh battery. On both 2G and 3G networks Nokia Lumia 900 gives a sufficient 7 hour talk time. Though we expected a bit more from Nokia but it’s a bit disappointing battery life.

Disadvantages

Nokia Lumia is lagging on the latest Windows phone OS as it offer with the old OS 7.5 Mango. We expected it to come with the latest Microsoft WP but the upgrade OS offered by Nokia is OS 7.8, quiet disappointing. Other than OS we miss the SD card slot for easy data in and out. Storage is fixed to 16GB as Nokia Lumia is not available with 32 or 64 GB internal storage. Lastly we didn’t like the sealed battery in plastic unibody, there is no option for users to replace the battery in case of any problem. Fixed battery will take away Nokia users to other smart phones as mostly Nokia users keeps the handsets for ages.

Should you Buy Nokia Lumia 900?

We highly recommend Nokia Lumia 900 to the users who are looking for a decent Windows Phone device. It offers great display with very responsive touch and swipes. Stay great to the eyes for continuous usage and no lagging found while exploring menus or working on any application. Nokia Lumia 900 may attract some android users but that depends on what features they are searching for.

Nokia Lumia 900 may give a hard time to midrange smart phones like apple iPhone or HTC or Motorola. It has great design with slim body and felt really good in hands. Nokia Lumia 900 is available in price range of 299$ to 315$ depends on the region as price may differ. It is also available with AT&T service which can offer great discounted price with different plan choice.
