Nokia C7 Review

Introduction

Nokia C7 is beautifully design handset with AMOLED touch screen. The Nokia C7 is similar to Nokia N8 in few ways like It has got the same blazing fast penta-band 3G, a 3.5" nHD AMOLED capacitive touch screen, a 680MHz CPU and 256MB RAM, which are some good figures for the efficient Symbian OS. Nokia C7 is slimmer which is something people will appreciate. And more importantly it is cheaper as compared to other mobiles of Nokia.

Design

Nokia C7 is impressively designed, and will be able to please loyal Nokia customers. Images, videos and text are displayed well on the Nokia C7. With a resolution of 360x640, pixel density is good enough to ensure adequate sharpness for most smart phone tasks. The Nokia C7's curved and beveled edges encourage a comfortable hand holding experience. Made of a combination of plastic and metal, the phone, with its candy bar form factor and lack of moving parts, feels distinctly durable and dense.

The C7 has three mechanical buttons below the screen, plus several more on the right-hand side including a key dedicated to launching the phone's voice commands service. There's also a camera shutter key powering the C7's 8-megapixel camera, located on the rear of the phone beside a dual-LED flash. Below the display are the three hardware keys which are Menu, Answer and Ignore.

Advantages

  • The build quality of the Nokia C7 is very good and user will feels handset very solid even if it is not mostly made of metal.
  • Its size is perfect to fit in user's hand. It is pretty light.

Disadvantages

  • The shutter key is small and almost flush against the side of the phone, making it rather uncomfortable to press.
  • The voice command key is a bit useless and user can just as easily press and hold the green receiver key to trigger voice commands. There is no option to change its function either, it would have made a convenient shortcut for other applications or functions.

Display

Nokia C7 has Screen size: 3.5", resolution: 16:9 nHD (640 x 360 pixels) AMOLED, 16.7 million colors, capacitive touch screen, orientation sensor (Accelerometer), compass (Magnetometer), proximity sensor, and ambient light detector. Watching Video on this 3.5"inch screen is a delightful experience.

Advantages

  • The home screen is the most evident of those, its size now expanded to three panes worth of space. You are free to fill it up with widgets and reshuffle them as you see fit. If three panes are too much for you, you can delete the ones you don't need.
  • C7 has nHD (640 x 360 pixels) OLED display which is absolutely beautiful. Colors appear natural and vivid. Viewing angles are better, as colors are only distorted less and only on bigger angles than on typical TFT displays which are found in phones of its current price range.
  • Another nice thing about this phone is, even in standby mode with screen locked, it displays a analog click, which is very useful and something you will only see on OLED type screens.

Disadvantages

  • Nokia C7 feels snappy most of the time, with lags noticeable only when dealing with heavy apps or when there are a lot of apps running in the background.
  • Nokia C7 display has just 38% of the pixels of an iPhone 4 screen and 60% of WVGA screens. The pixel density is a bit lower than that of the Samsung Galaxy S.

Battery

Nokia C7 has long battery life. On the basis of talk time the phone has an average talk time of 9.6 hours whereas on the standby mode the phone can go on 18 days. It has Talk Time576 minutes, 3G Stand-by Time648 to 656 hours, 3G Talk Time318 minutes, Battery Power1200 mAh.

Advantages

  • The function of power save mode and deactivating such mode has also be featured which can aid you at the times of despair.

Performance

The phone is amazing in its performance as the phone has a 680Mhz ARM 11 processor which makes working on the phone superfast. The memory capacity of the phone is 8 GB as internal and it can further be enhanced to 32 GB with the help of external Micro SD card.

Advantages

  • Nokia C7 performance is amazing good because it has a 680Mhz ARM 11 processor which makes functionality of Nokia C7 speedy.
  • Nokia C7 has memory of 8 GB which can be further expanded to 32 GB with the help pf external Micro SD card so user can store enough of his data.

Camera

The Nokia C7 has 8 MP camera which supports high quality of photo capture along with video recording. The camera has a capture capacity which can be activated in various modes such as scene mode which includes auto option along with other options such as user defined, close-up, portrait, landscape, sport, night, etc. Other attributes includes self timer, color tone, white balance, exposure, ISO, adjustable contrast and sharpness.

Advantages

  • With the support of dual LED flash, night shots and video appears to be better.
  • The phone captures video at 720P mode which is ideal for high quality video playback.

Disadvantages

  • High resolution and fixed-focus is a combo that doesn't seem to make much sense. As a matter of fact, the images produced turned out as bad as we feared. Nokia C7 doesn't adjust the focus before snapping a picture, instead it keeps all subjects beyond 50cm from the lens in a sharp, flat focal range.
  • Autofocus is missing and it becomes apparent when user tries to take up a close up shot. Anything closer than 50cm is a no-go and to give you a perspective, to fill the frame with a standard A4 sheet you need to get as close as 30cm.
  • Nokia C7 one problem is strong noise reduction which makes smaller text fonts hardly legible even when the text is in focus, so making nice shots of documents and leaflets is a not so easy on Nokia C7.

The browser

GPS, Wi-Fi, quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G, Bluetooth all play their part in making this a well connected phone.

With an improved mail client, it's a piece of cake to set up email accounts such as Windows Live, Gmail and Yahoo!, and with Mail for Exchange support, inputting just a little more information will give you access to additional mailboxes as well as calendar, contacts and task sync.

Web pages load accurately enough, however, stutter when swiping around, especially on larger pages. This can be remedied by loading up Opera however, available through the Ovi Store.

Advantages

  • User can have a Face book Updates widget on one of the home pages that gives you scrolling updates and links into a nicely designed Face book page.
  • Web page is shown full screen with no menu bars consuming space.
  • Users can easily setup account like on hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo and can access additional mailboxes as well as calendar, contacts etc
  • Nokia C7 visual history helps user find a page he has visited more easily.
  • Nokia C7 web browser does a good job of rendering pages and it is fast to react to finger gestures, like pinch-to-zoom.
  • Nokia C7 browser does support Flash and multi touch.
  • It is easy to add bookmarks, find words in a page or subscribe to RSS feeds too with a contextual menu.

Disadvantages

  • Symbian^3's web browser sadly doesn't carry forward the speedy performance seen in the rest of the OS.
  • Nokia C7 has memory problem that its Internet Browser keep on saying Memory Full.

Software and Application

Nokia C7 supports Symbian^3 OS, Java MIDP 2.1, Qt 4.6.2, Web Runtime 7.2, HTML 4.1, Software updates Over the Air (FOTA) and Over the internet (FOTI), Flash Lite 4.0, OMA DM 1.2, OMA Client provisioning 1.1.

  • The Video Player on this Phone versatile, it plays almost all formats. The best part is that there is no need to convert or encode videos, you can take a full size hd video, and it will play on phone without any lags.
  • Nokia C7 has number of application which make it entertaining like Calendar, Contacts, music player, internet, messaging, photos, Ovi Store, Maps, Videos, Web TV, Office document viewers, Video and photo editor, Mail, Radio and PC Applications: Nokia Ovi Suite, Nokia Ovi Player.

Should I buy Nokia C7 or not?

The C7 is the best Nokia phone seen in a long time. Though it is not recommend for business users, the C7 would make a very capable everyday phone for many people with its mixture of speed, sleek style and gorgeous AMOLED display. The phone does well on Multimedia, Calling, SMS and Camera side, while falling short on third-party software and OS might not be as polished as iOS or WP7. But to its credit, you are already using a Nokia phone, and then you will not have to learn anything much because you are familiar with its user interface.
