Nokia 808 PureView Review

Introduction

After waiting for 3 months, Nokia has stunned the market with its new “Nokia 808 PureView”. It’s a complete studio for the users who are crazy about taking picture or making videos. Want to know how??? It has the world’s most powerful camera that ever comes in a smart phone 41 Mega Pixels Camera!

No wonder Nokia "the people's choice" brand has always wins by its innovations, as they continued to do previously. Its quiet competitive of Nokia to launch a non-android smart phone when it's green andro-guys jumping over most major brands like HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sony Ericson etc. Yes, Nokia 808 PureView is a Symbian phone but we can't say it’s not smart. Sure it’s fast as any other touch phone you had used or willing to.

Nokia 808 PureView offer fast processing performance and smooth touch experience just like iPhone, HTC, Samsung or any other popular smart phone. It features a 1.3GHz Arm II CPU and Broadcom BCM2763 GPU which holds its stunning AMOLED screen with great HD quality. While using the phone it will impress the user with its quick response to the touch and swipes. As the name says itself, Nokia 808 PureView is design to deliver the best to the consumer segment who are looking for a great camera in a smart phone. With its 41 MP camera comes a Carl Zeiss optics lens, autofocus and a powerful Xenon flash. Photo and videos stays at their best whether the light is good or bad, Nokia 808 PureView will keeps you top of everything.

Design

Nokia 808 PureView looks very decent with its curves and comfortable grip. Its quiet similar to numerous touch phones available but the design it's not ugly. With its 41MP Camera and Carl Zeiss lens Nokia 808 PureView is a bit fat and heavy with 169g weight. It‘s crafted in plastic body which seems to be a good idea as metal will be non bearable to carry with such weight. With its fine plastic finishing 808 PureView can beat any other metal body phone. It's pretty solid to hold and there is no plastic squeaking sounds it sure felt good in hands.

Nokia 808 PureView comes with 4 inch screen of Corning Gorilla Glass which protects it longer to scratches and bumps. Screen spaced nicely for easy touch and swipe which makes texting and other social application very comfortable to use. Screen has 3 basic buttons for Home, receiving and closing calls. Right side of Nokia 808 PureView has a pushing lock key similar to N series and Nokia X6, dedicated camera key which is very handy and volume rocker. Top side is installed with a 3.5mm audio jack, a HDMI port and USB connector. There is nothing on the left side of the phone. If you turn it back the huge lump of Nokia 808 PureView camera lens felt a bit old style.

Performance

Nokia 808 PureView is amazingly fast with general usage and multi tasks as well. The 1.3GHz Arm II processor gives true boost to speedy performance. Touch and swipe responses are in real time, no lagging in applications or other features found while in use. Even with heavy camera and mechanical shutter it captures and save images in less than 2 seconds. Comparing Nokia 808 PureView performance with other smart phones, we didn’t find Arm II CPU lagging behind from latest Core CPU. Power consumption is good as Arm II runs on less voltage due to its single core technology. It also enables Nokia 808 PureView stay alive up to 34 hours.

Display

Nokia 808 PureView comes with AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, great to use while you're going through menus or applications. Picture and videos feels great. GPU installed is Broadcom BCM2763 which gives amazing resolution of 16 Million colors. Screen gets a bit thin if looked from a distance but visibility is very pleasant. It does reflect when using in direct sunlight or outdoors due to its Clear Black screen. As we compare the display resolution of Nokia 808 PureView with Samsung Galaxy S III, result comes in favor of Nokia 808 PureView to be the world’s best screen resolution with 4.6 contras ratio.

Camera

Nokia 808 PureView offers the world largest camera resolution of 41 Mega Pixel. Users can select resolution between 3MP to 38MP as per requirement. Means, it can easily give an edge to any DSLR camera in picture quality. With powerful Carl Zeiss optic the image quality of Nokia 808 PureView is stays perfect. Doesn't matter camera is at maximum zoom, pixel stays sharp and balance to deliver outstanding quality image. Beside its rich resolution, Nokia 808 PureView Camera also features 1/1.2" camera sensor with 7728 x 5368 resolution (41MP), one of the largest sensor in any phone, mechanical shutter, face detection, and 4x digital zoom. The amazing thing about the Nokia 808 PureView is the freedom of camera setting. You can adjust the aperture size, EV settings and ISO (up to 1600) setting as required. Nokia 808 PureView offers 3 Shooting modes: Automatic, Scenes and Creative. Automatic mode keeps things simple with 5MP resolution for best results. Scenes mode is great for instant pictures without tweaking with setting. And Creative mode gives a complete freedom to set all the option just like you are using your DSLR camera for professional image capturing.

For the video recordings, Nokia 808 PureView captures the true HD resolution of 1080p. There is no noise in video quality while shooting outdoors or indoors. Users can zoom in and out for the best shooting experience and the camera stays on its best. Camera can be set on different HD sizes and frame capture rate can also be selected as per the quality required. Nokia 808 PureView has an Active Noise Cancelling Mic which delivers the most perfect sound quality while you’re making a home video or a concert video.

Nokia 808 PureView is a perfect editing studio for captured image and videos. No need to transfer the images or videos to you PC or laptop for editing or rendering, Nokia 808 PureView offer all the tools and effects to make your image as professional as you want then and there.

OS and Other Features

Nokia 808 PureView installed with traditional but improved Nokia Belle Symbian operating system. With 1.3 GHz Arm II it works faster and more responsive. Even with the Symbian platform the Menus and application seems quiet vibrant with its Broadcom GPU chip performance. But here we miss the application freedom of Android OS as the Symbian OS do restrict users to install free apps.

Nokia 808 Pure View comes with internal storage capacity of 16GB, 1 GB ROM and 512 MB RAM, its quiet sufficient for all types of data storage. It can be increase up to 32GB with Micro SD card option.

Sound quality of Nokia 808 PureView one of the significant features offered. The Dolby digital plus throw the best sound of audio and video files. Nokia 808 PureView also has a Dolby headset enhancement option to deliver the best audio experience to enjoy your favorite tracks on the run.

Nokia 808 PureView Radio with RDS is great for listening to favorite radio station. Beside the reception quality FM transmitter is very handy for sharing music on car audio system or any other FM receiving device. Nokia 808 PureView is great for navigation thanks to its A-GPS support users can comfortably search through maps and destination to reach. Beside GPS, internet browsing is very comfortable we didn’t find any problem with its Wi-Fi speed and capabilities.

Nokia 808 PureView battery time is excellent with Li-Ion 1400 mAh. It gives more than 10hours of talk time on 2G networks and around 6-7 hours on 3G networks. With internet browsing and excessive camera usage Nokia 808 PureView battery last 2days.

Disadvantages

We are quiet impress with Nokia 808 PureView but missing of Android OS is something we can't ignore. It restricts users to the Nokia compatible Apps and Ovi Store. We do miss the freedom of Android apps and availability with Nokia 808 PureView. Design is normal but could be more attractive if packed in a slimmer body its quiet fat. Nokia 808 PureView has achieved the highest place in camera performance and screen display quality but it needs to be richer. HTC One and Samsung Galaxy II and III display still hits the eye better. May be in future screen size will increase by Nokia to deliver the best of HD resolution.

Should You Buy Nokia 808 PureView?

We highly recommend Nokia 808 PureView to the users who want a professional camera in a smart phone. This powerful Nokia got all the features you need for the best picture and video results. Nokia 808 PureView is fast in performance, hold a camera which can beat any DSLR camera for image and video as well. It also offers massive storage capacity and top of the line display experience.

For Android platform lovers Nokia 808 PureView is not recommended. But if you are looking for a smart phone regardless of its OS, then we are sure that Nokia 808 PureView will make you think twice before you take any decision.

Nokia 808 PureView is available price range of 700$ to 800$, price may vary a bit in different regions. With price like this Nokia may face tuff time by the competing brands, but Nokia reliability and quality may attract some new users as we as the old loyal ones.
